Checks by GBC NEWS have revealed that School Feeding Programme Caterers in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region are at the post and are cooking for children in beneficiary schools. But speaking to GBCNEWS on condition of anonymity, a Caterer was emphatic that they face serious challenges which must be addressed soon, as promised, for their services to be maintained.
The Schools visited by GBCNEWS included the Presbyterian Cluster of Schools Kindergarten and the DA Urban Basic School. At all these schools, the School Feeding Programme Caterers were at the post and had already served the children their meals.
Speaking to GBCNEWS, a Caterer who did not want to be named said they actually went on strike over the inadequate resource challenge and returned to work about three weeks ago.
She stressed that the current 1 Ghana cedi per child funding is woefully inadequate and must be increased in the face of the current cost of living crisis Ghana is grappling with.
She further said they (caterers) are waiting to engage with School Feeding Programme Officials on the increment in the financial allocation to ensure amicably in the interest of the children.
