Accra, Ghana – The Speaker of Parliament to the Republic of Ghana, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin will officially commission his lab – the Yamoransa Model (YM) Lab 14 on Saturday 22nd March 2025, at Kaleo of the Nadwoli Kaleo district, in the Upper West region of Ghana.

Initiated at the Speaker’s request, the facility’s construction was financed by him as part of his commitment to advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education in his district. The Helping Africa Foundation also funded the technology and equipment for the lab.

The commissioning of the YM Lab 14, in collaboration with the Helping Africa Foundation (Founders of the Yamoransa Model Labs Program); IMPLEMENTERS (Project Managers); TECHAiDE, Ghana Education Service, the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly and the Traditional Council, marks a significant milestone in enhancing learning, innovation and providing underprivileged students with access to cutting-edge technology and resources.

The YM Lab 14 is expected to serve as a centre for modern technology and resources that boost students’ innovation, smart learning, creativity, research and leadership potential. The Yamoransa Model Lab Program aims to provide students with an opportunity to expand their education on STEAM by gaining hands-on experience with the theories they are taught. The program provides deprived communities with an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre, equipped with educational content, multimedia and a Maker Space that comes with robotics, AR/VR learning and 3D printing.

Drawing on the successes of other YM Labs in the country and other countries, the YM Lab 14 will provide a conducive learning environment to over 3,439 students; 1,788 males and 1,651 females from 10 schools in the Kaleo community. The 36-seater EDUlab with a maker space and conference room will enable students with practical skills in their learning of STEAM, thereby building their capacity to become problem-solvers and better positioning themselves in their future careers.

As the Promoter of the lab, Speaker Bagbin remains committed to closing educational gaps in his district by fostering collaboration, ensuring stakeholder engagement, and securing sustainable funding to expand the initiative.

The YM Lab 14 is dedicated to promoting the importance of STEAM education in shaping Ghana’s educational system and the future of its youth. Since its inception in 2016, the Yamoransa Model Labs Program has established 14 labs across 13 regions in Ghana, with plans to expand to Savannah and Upper East Regions through upcoming government partnerships.

The dedication will have in attendance major stakeholders in government and education such as Members of Parliament, Government Officials, District Assemblies, Ghana Education Service, Civil Society Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations, Students and Private Sector Institutions. There will also be an exhibition that will showcase the facilities in the lab, to give the audience an experience of the impact it will have on the student’s educational excellence.
