The Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has officially inducted Prof. Bashiru Ibn Imoro Saeed as its second Vice Chancellor in Tamale.
The investiture ceremony marked a significant transition in leadership for the university, as Prof. Bashiru takes over from the founding VC, Prof. Abass Braimah, who served from September 2020 to July 2024.
Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Al-Hassan Emil Abdulai, who led the team to swear in the new VC, congratulated him on his appointment and advised him to focus on enhancing academic programs and improving the university’s infrastructure.
He advised the VC to focus on enhancing academic programmes and improving the university’s infrastructure to better serve its growing student population and also meet the educational standards in Ghana.
Prof. Bashiru, in his acceptance speech, expressed his gratitude to the University Council, staff, and students for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the university. He commended Former VC, Prof. Abass Braimah, for his commitment in laying down a strong foundation for the University. He pledged to work diligently to maintain and strengthen the university’s values and legacy.
Prof. Bashiru outlined his vision for the university, focusing on improving infrastructure and student services to position TaTU as a leading technical university in higher education. He plans to expand and modernise the university’s infrastructure, including learning spaces, lecture halls, and laboratories. Other key areas of focus include Smart Campus, where technology would be integrated into every aspect of university life, including expanding Wi-Fi connectivity, enhancing digital classrooms, and implementing data-driven tools.
He mentioned that Campus Greening, student hostels, and recreational facilities would be at the heart of his development strategies.
“The campus greening and landscaping shall be at the heart of our infrastructure development over the next few years. We will create green spaces and adopt initiatives that promote eco-friendly technologies across the length and breadth of the university to create a sustainable campus,” he stated.
The investiture ceremony was attended by the family of the VC, representatives of regulatory bodies, registrars from sister institutions, heads of second-cycle institutions, members of convocation, traditional authorities, and family members.
