The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), is marking the 10th anniversary of its celebration of History Day, with calls for the Ghanaian government to adopt the concept and establish a national History Day. Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, Wilson Dabuo and Indome Isaac, both lecturers at the UEW History Department, emphasized the importance of honoring Ghana’s history, culture, and traditions.
Indome Isaac highlighted the critical role of universities in training teachers who can impart knowledge of the country’s history to future generations. “As a university that trains teachers, it is essential to have a generation of educators who can pass down Ghana’s rich history, culture, and traditions to children,” he said.
This year, the History Day celebration took place at the Joseph Anamoah Mensah Auditorium of the University of Education, Winneba, with various cultural and historical activities, including dance performances and cultural exhibitions. Dignitaries from the university attended the event, while students actively participated in the cultural and historical engagements.

Lecturer Isaac Indome also stressed the need for Ghana to digitize and preserve its history. He noted that safeguarding historical records is essential for future generations, ensuring that the country’s heritage is protected for years to come.
The UEW History Day celebrations aim to create greater awareness of Ghana’s historical significance while fostering pride in the nation’s rich cultural heritage. The lecturers expressed hope that the government would soon recognize the importance of a national History Day, which could be celebrated by all of Ghana, helping to further preserve and promote the country’s history for the future.
