The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) began administering practical and theory papers for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates on Monday, August 19, 2024.
This follows the administration of the Visual Art Project work from August 5 to 16, 2024. The examination will conclude on Friday, September 20, 2024.
A total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1,003 schools, have registered for the Examination. This represents a 2.66% increase from the 2023 entry figure of 448,674. The examination is being held at 1,000 centers across the country.
However, WAEC has expressed concern over reports of widespread cheating schemes by some institutions. Intelligence gathered indicates that:
– Candidates in some areas are being charged between Gh¢200.00 and Gh¢500.00 to receive assistance from invigilators.
– Supervisors at some centers plan to assign teachers to invigilate subjects they teach.
– Some schools have registered individuals who are not their legitimate students.
WAEC cautions all Heads of School, Supervisors, and Invigilators to refrain from such practices, warning that those involved will face consequences according to the examination’s rules and regulations. The Council may nullify the entries of such candidates and cancel their entire results if discovered. Additionally, examination centers that fail to comply with the rules will be relocated to WAEC-designated centers.
WAEC solicits the support of all stakeholders, particularly supervisors and invigilators, in maintaining the integrity of the examination.
Candidates are advised to adhere to the rules and regulations and beware of rogue website operators who circulate fake questions and lure candidates into subscribing to them, distracting them from their studies.
“The Council wishes all candidates success in their papers and reminds them that they can pass their examination without cheating,” the statement concluded.
