The Minister of Energy, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has visited the Tema Harbour to assess the situation of about 2,500 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) that have been left uncleared for years.
The containers, which were purchased by the previous administration, hold important materials for energy projects. However, they have been sitting at the port, leading to demurrage charges of GHS 1.5 billion. This situation highlights serious issues with resource management and coordination between agencies.
During the visit, Hon. Jinapor expressed his disappointment, calling the situation unacceptable. He pledged to take swift action to clear the containers and prevent further financial losses. The Minister emphasized that resolving the issue would support key energy projects and improve services for Ghanaians.
He also assured the public of measures to avoid such problems in the future, stressing the importance of efficient use of national resources to support the country’s development goals.
