The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has called on restaurants, nightclubs, religious bodies, and other entertainment institutions to be mindful of noise-making to avert sanctions.
The Environmental Protection Agency security and intelligence officers will be deployed to major cities nationwide to ensure facilities engaged in noise-making are checked and controlled.
The recalcitrant facilities and individuals will be made to face the law as prescribed in its standards and regulations.
The Divisional Chairman of the Public Service Workers Union of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Environmental Protection Agency, in the person of Godsway Lawson Daniels, said any action that will be deemed to have constituted environmental noise pollution will be dealt with accordingly.
He said the EPA is mandated under the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1994 (Act 490) and LI 1652 as part of its functions “to issue notice in the form of directives, procedures, or warnings to such bodies as it may determine for curbing noise nuisance in the environment”.
According to the Union Chairman, every citizen has the right to worship and play music for purposes of entertainment but must not disturb others in the same environment.
Chairman Daniels also expressed his appreciation to the EPA management for better collaboration between them and the union. They have both achieved some great milestones this year, and he is hopeful that the coming year will be better.
He thanked all staff of the Environmental Protection Agency and assured them that the Public Service Workers Union of TUC will not relent in its efforts to work with EPA management to ensure the betterment of workers’ welfare.
He used the opportunity to wish staff Merry Xmas and a prosperous New Year.
The Environmental Protection Agency is the leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in Ghana.
It is also responsible for regulating actions necessary to prevent, reduce, and, as far as possible, eliminate pollution and actions that lower the quality of the environment.

There is always a shifting of responsibility when one makes a report.
It’s very unfair to those suffering from this chronic canker.
Noise pollution is real and painful to endure.
Noise pollution is blighting the lives of Ghanaians.
The EPA, Municipal/Metropolitan Assemblies and the Police need to enforce noise nuisance laws, byelaws and regulations so that we can have some peace and quiet.
Hope this means the EPA is taking its mandate to limit Noise Pollution seriously. Enforcement of Rules and Regulations is important to the quality of life every citizen is entitled to enjoy.
Please, has the EPA ever managed to implement the law on noise pollution in Ghana ?
Funerals in the middle of the street with speakers blaring till the early hours.
The institution is obviously not equipped to deal with the issue.
I suggest the governing bodies pull up their socks and DO THEIR JOBS. !!!
