In an exclusive interview with Ebitz on LifeStyle Tv, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, a private legal practitioner has explained that establishments inviting the “look-alikes” to perform the original songs of musicians are accomplices and can be arrested.

According to him, “they are accomplices and in law they can be arrested and called for questioning because if you encourage a crime you’re also guilty”.

He continued by saying “the original musicians can take them to court under the copyright laws that they are infringing upon your rights of originality because anyone who tries to copy whatever you’ve been able to do and  create in terms of trying to imitate or impersonate you can be taken on hence they can go to court for redress”.

For some weeks now, there has been a trend of “look-alikes” on social media. These people look like some Ghanaian musicians in one way or the other such as Mr. Drew, Kuami Eugene, King Promise, Shatta Wale, Medikal, Fameye, Quamina MP among others.

What started as a mere comic has escalated to something serious as Musician Quamina MP narrated in an interview that one of the “look-alikes” pretended to be him and attended a concert that he was supposed to headline, causing disappointment to the fans.

Other original musicians have also expressed their dislike concerning the whole issue stating that these guys are riding on their hard work to be famous which is not a good thing.

To be fair to these “look-alikes”, one can tell that they are fans of the original musicians who only love and wish to be like them which wouldn’t have been an issue until they started performing songs done by the original artists.
