A former Eastern Regional Women;s Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress, NDC, Evelyn Korang has been elected as the Council of State Member to represent the Eastern Region.
Mrs. Korang polled 17 votes out of the total 66 valid votes cast to beat the other 19 contestants. Her closest contender, Nana Afia Asantewaa Afrifa also polled 12 votes.

In her acceptance speech, she noted that she will collaborate effectively with the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Adjei Akosua Awatey to help move the region forward.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Adjei Akosua Awatey commended the Electoral Commission and all contestants for a successful election.
She also commended the delegates for electing a woman who will support her in championing the development of the region.

Twenty four candidates filed to contest in the election with 66 delegates having the voting right from the 33 districts in the region. However, two candidates were absent while two contestants withdrew from the contest.
