The Studies of sport psychology is one area very essential for several handles of athletes. This helps to improve the Performance of athletes in understanding what drives them to perform at their best. Again in developing mental toughness and learning of techniques to build resilience and cope with pressure sports psychology comes to play.
In order to help athletes build their capacity, meet the growing demand and conforming athletes to international standards in sports psychology, the National Sport College Winneba in collaboration with the National Sport Authority is under taking a five days certificate course in Sports Psychology for coaches in the various sporting discipline.

Opening the ceremony, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams said he is happy the course has come at the right time since sports can not develop without the inclusion of psychology. He said if athletes are not psychic they can not compete properly and win in competition.
He added that without psychology athletes who compete in international stage are caught with stage fright. He charge the media to speak positively about athletes which also psychics them anytime are going into competitions.
He praised the National Sports Authority and the National Sports College for organising such a program. He further charged the two institutions to organise more of this psychology courses so all sports discipline can benefit.
The newly appointed Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah edged the participants to avail themselves for all the knowledge which will be impacted by the resources person.
The Acting Director of the National Sport College, Bawa Fussini said the first ever sports psychology course is aimed at growing the sports industry.
He said is time Ghana move away from talent and performance alone for competition but also add the psychological aspect to coaching of athletes for competition.
He said with the support of the sports ministry and the Sports Authority, the college is ready to organise more of such courses for sports administers.
By studying sport psychology, practitioners gain a deeper understanding of the psychological factors that influence athletic performance and overall well-being.
In all one hundred people made UPseventy registered participants and thirty observers will be taken through the rudiment of current in sports psychology course by Dr Elvis Hagan Junior a lecturer from German and Dr Medina Srem Sai also a lecturer of psychology at the Winneba university at the media centre of Accra Sports Stadium.
Also present at the ceremony was the two deputy director of the national sports authority
Mr Gideon Hammond and Miss Veronica Commey.
