The boxing world is still reeling from the shocking death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who passed away during a bout against Ghanaian boxer Jonathan Mbanugu on Saturday, March 29, 2025. As the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continues, officials remain unsure of what caused the tragedy.

According to Mohammed Amin Lamptey, Communication Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority, the exact cause of Olanrewaju’s death remains a mystery. “As we speak now, we cannot tell what really killed Gabriel. We are waiting for the autopsy,” Lamptey revealed. The autopsy is expected to provide more clarity on the circumstances surrounding Olanrewaju’s death.
