The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held productive discussions with the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Imane Ouaadil, addressing key issues of mutual concern. Ambassador Ouaadil assured that Ghanaians and other Africans living in Morocco are safe, contrary to widely circulated social media videos falsely claiming the massacre of 700 Africans.
She clarified that the footage in question relates to a tragic border incident on June 24, 2022, which resulted in the loss of 23 lives but recorded no Ghanaian casualties. The incident has since been investigated by Moroccan and Spanish authorities.
In a significant gesture of goodwill, Morocco has announced plans to double scholarships for Ghanaian students from 90 to 180 beginning this year.

This development underscores Morocco’s commitment to fostering educational opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
The scholarship expansion is expected to strengthen academic and cultural ties between the two nations while providing more Ghanaians access to higher education in Morocco.
Furthermore, Ghana and Morocco have agreed to initiate a visa waiver agreement for all categories of travelers from both countries. This landmark agreement aims to enhance people-to-people exchanges and boost tourism and business opportunities. The visa waiver proposal will soon be presented to the respective parliaments for ratification, marking a major step forward in bilateral relations.
The two nations also pledged deeper collaboration in agribusiness, tourism, and security during the discussions. These commitments reflect the shared vision of Ghana and Morocco to foster economic growth and regional stability.

Minister Ablakwa expressed optimism about the strengthened partnership, emphasizing that these initiatives will benefit citizens of both countries while advancing African unity and progress.
