Ghana Health Service is considering banning the use of mobile phones among health professionals in health facilities across the country.
It comes on the back of complaints of poor customer service among health workers often attached to their phones during working hours, to the detriment of human lives.
Speaking at the inauguration of three new ultra-modern polyclinics at Sege, Ashaiman and Ogbojo in the Adentan Municipality to augment health infrastructure in the Greater Accra Region, the Director-General of the Service, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, who hinted that, said letters will soon go round on how the system would be run such that when the workers enter the hospitals or clinics, they will not have access to mobile network. In place of that, intercoms will be provided as means of communication.
The 30 bed capacity facilities come with an operation theatre, laboratory, an x-ray department, pharmacy, counseling room, wards, staff bungalows and a cold room among others.
They form part of five Polyclinics being constructed by government in the Greater Accra Region to improve access to health care services.
