Flag bearer for the Great Consolidated Popular Party(GCPP), Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr has underscored the urgent need for Ghana to explore alternative solutions to address the detrimental impact of galamsey activities in the country.

In an interview with GTV’s election platform, Ghana wins on October 09,2024 Dr. Lartey who has taken the leadership mantle of the party from his father Daniel Lartey, emphasized the importance of educating and motivating the youth to pursue farming as a sustainable alternative to illegal mining activities like galamsey.

He bemoaned the detrimental effects of galamsey on the agricultural sector, citing how it has eroded the attractiveness of farming as a viable and profitable venture, especially among the younger generation.

Highlighting the fusion of agriculture and modern technology as pivotal to Ghana’s progress, Dr Lartey pledged substantial investments in technology to drive socioeconomic advancement. He vowed to prioritize agricultural growth if entrusted with leadership, emphasizing its role as the bedrock of the nation’s economy.

He further expressed his concerns over the continued reliance on food imports despite ample agricultural lands within the country. In a bid to tackle this issue, the leader pledged to introduce “Operation Feed Yourselves” if entrusted with leadership, aiming to enhance food self-sufficiency and reduce dependency on imported food items.
