The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service have received the first consignment of Measles vaccines, Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccines and Oral Polio Vaccines.
The Ministry of Information in a statement said distribution to various regions and facilities was underway.
Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon, Regional Cold Vans were seen picking up their consignments of the Measles, BCG and Oral Polio vaccines received on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in Accra, together with accompanying logistics at the National Cold Room.
According to the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, more vaccines are expected in Ghana in the coming weeks from multiple sources.
At a Press Conference on March 7th, 2023 Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu disclosed that more than $6 million has been paid to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to deliver baby vaccines, following the shortage.
According to Mr. Agyeman Manu, the government expects the vaccine shortage to end in the next three weeks.
