The Ghana Wheelchair Tennis Federation (GWTF) is making history as they prepare to participate in the 2025 International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Team Cup Africa qualifiers in Rabat, Morocco.
This prestigious five-day event, scheduled to take place from February 18 to 22, 2025, not only serves as a qualification tournament for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles but also highlights Ghana’s growing commitment to wheelchair tennis on the global stage.
A press release signed by the National Coordinator of GWTF, Dr. Henry Larbi, emphasized the significance of the tournament.
“The PNB Paribas World Team Cup is one of the International Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis flagship tournaments, similar to the ITF Davies Cup for Able Tennis,” Dr. Larbi stated.
The team, currently in Rabat, kicked off their preparations with their first training session at the Wifaq Tennis Club.
Leading the contingent is Kwabena Afriyie-Siaw, who represents the National Coordination of GWT, along with accomplished athletes Bernard Yawson and Daniel Laryea.
The team is determined to showcase Ghana’s potential in wheelchair tennis and rival some of the best teams from across Africa and the world.
This marks a pivotal moment for Ghanaian wheelchair tennis, as the team aims to build on their recent achievements and compete at the highest level. The federation’s efforts have already reaped benefits, with the team eager to make their presence felt on the international scene.
