Government trains more Doctors to handle growing cases of epilepsy

The Head of Neurology at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Albert Akpalo says government is training more doctors and other health professionals to handle the increasing cases of epilepsy.

Speaking to GBC’s Rukayatu Musah, Dr. Akpalo said the condition, though not contagious is increasing and the main challenge is the unavailability of medicines to treat it.

February 11 marks another celebration of International Epilepsy Day. A special event organised by the International Bureau for Epilepsy and the International League Against Epilepsy to promote awareness of epilepsy in more than 120 countries each year.

On the second Monday of February, people come together to celebrate and highlight the problems faced by people with epilepsy, their families and carers.
