Match-day 19 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) delivered excitement and drama as teams battled for crucial points, reshaping the league standings.  Hearts of Oak made headlines with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Heart of Lions, extending their unbeaten run to six matches.

The victory came courtesy of a second-half penalty, expertly converted by forward Mawuli Wayo, at the University of Ghana Stadium. The Phobians (Heart’s of Oak)) showcased resilience and determination, vital attributes as they aim for the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Nsoatreman ended Asante Kotoko’s impressive seven-game unbeaten streak in a fiercely contested match at Nana Konamansah Park. The game was marked by a tense atmosphere, including a red card incident and disruptions from fans. In the end, Nsoatreman clinched a crucial goal that secured their victory, a result that will undoubtedly boost their confidence as they navigate the remainder of the season.

Bibiani Gold Stars were held to a goalless draw by defending champions, FC Samartex, at Dun’s Park, moving to the top spot on the table.

The hosts were denied a fourth consecutive home win by the Timber Giants.

Aduana FC also had reason to celebrate, securing a vital 1-0 win against Bechem United at the Nana Agyeman Badu Stadium. Forward Kelvin Obeng’s first-half strike proved decisive, providing Aduana with crucial points in their battle against relegation. The match was a testament to the competitive spirit of the league, with both teams exhibiting tenacity throughout the encounter.

In another thrilling match, Dreams FC lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Tuba Astro Turf.

Abdul Razak Salifu opened the scoring for Dreams FC just before halftime, but the visitors equalised shortly after the break. The hosts responded quickly, with Joseph Esso restoring their lead just three minutes later. This result was a significant boost for Dreams FC, as they continue to fight for survival in the league.

Karela United also found success, defeating Berekum Chelsea 2-1 at the Naa Sheriga Sports Centre in Nalerigu. Alhassan Adamu’s goal in the 12th minute set the tone, allowing Karela to break a frustrating four-game losing streak. 

Additionally, Medeama secured their first win under new coach Ibrahim Tanko with a dramatic home match against Legon Cities, signalling a potential turning point for the team. Vision FC rounded off the matchday with a comeback victory against Accra Lions, courtesy of a last-minute penalty from Opoku Agyemang.
