Ghana’s Minister for Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akando, has commenced a visit to the Agenda 111 sites in the Ashanti Region to assess the progress of the project, which was initially launched by the previous administration.

During his visit, Mr. Mintah Akando revealed that the project, which was originally managed by the Presidency, has now been transferred to the Ministry of Health, signifying a key shift in its oversight.

He also shared that briefings from the project’s consultants have confirmed that none of the Agenda 111 facilities have been completed.

However, he assured Ghanaians that the government remains fully committed to completing the projects as planned and on schedule.

He noted that upon inspection, it was clear that construction was still underway, meaning the hospitals were not yet operational.

Mr. Akando said President John Dramani Mahama had assigned him the responsibility of ensuring the completion of the Agenda 111 projects.

About Agenda 111

On August 17, 2021, former President Nana Akufo-Addo officially launched the construction of the Agenda 111 healthcare facilities, with a commitment to completing the project within 18 months.

The initiative was first introduced by the former President in his eighth COVID-19 national address on April 26, 2020, in response to the challenges posed by the pandemic in Ghana.

Initially called “Agenda 88,” the government later expanded the scope and renamed it “Agenda 111.”

The project includes the construction of 23 new healthcare facilities, with 13 district hospitals among them.

The distribution of these facilities is as follows: 10 in Ashanti, 9 in Volta, 8 in Eastern, 7 each in Greater Accra and Upper East, 5 each in Oti, Upper West, Bono, and Western North, 3 in Savannah, and 2 each in Bono East and North East.

The plan also includes the construction of regional hospitals in Oti, Bono, Bono East, Savannah, North East, and Western North, as well as two specialized hospitals in the middle and northern regions. Additionally, a regional hospital is set to be built in the Western Region, and the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital will undergo renovation.
