As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility the Alumni of the Korea Foundation For International Healthcare, KOFIH, has donated 69 units of blood to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and Princess Marie Louis Children’s Hospital in Greater Accra region of Ghana.
Since its establishment, in 2006 in memory of Dr Lee Jong-wook, KOFIH has provided Government level Healthcare Assistance to Developing Partner Countries, North Korea, Overseas Koreans, Migrant Workers residing in Korea and People in Disaster-stricken areas across the globe.
It has since 2013 and as part of its Official Development Assistance Program, supported the Ministry Of Health in areas such as Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health Project, National Health Insurance Policy Cooperation and among others.
KOFIH foundation is an Agency affiliated to the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Republic of Korea.
At the donation ceremony, While speaking to the media, Doctor Emmanuel Srofenyo who is the Medical Director for the Greater Accra Regional Hospital said ‘’Blood is very crucial to humans especially children.
People like children and mothers are those who are really in need of blood at the hospital therefore the need to donate to save their lives and the public to donate blood very often’‘ he appealed.
President of the Alumni group Ghana Chapter, Doctor Ralph Armah outlined the activities for the year. According to him, they had blood donation exercises on the February 14 at the Presbyterian Church at Osu.
“The blood have been screened and processed,” Doctor Ralph Armah.
Receiving the blood, Representative of the Princess Marie Louis Children’s Hospital in Accra, Dr. Maame Yaa Nyarko, thanked the donors and the Alumni saying that the gesture will go a long way in helping the children.
Dr Lee Jong-wook was the first doctor to occupy an international position.
