Four poultry farms in the Ashanti region have recorded bird flu cases this year. More than 31,000 birds involved in the outbreak are to be culled to avoid possible spread to nearby farms. Osvikfarms has the largest number of 23,000 birds, Obaatanpa farms has 2,000 birds, followed by Nketia Mansa farms with 1,600 birds. Three of the farms are located at the Oforikrom Municipality and one at Pankrono in the Tafo Municipality.
Speaking to GBC News, the Ashanti Regional Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Marlon Mensah said all birds affected by the disease at Nketia Mansa farms have been destroyed. He said officials had difficulty in convincing the owners before killing the birds.
