37 Military Hospital receives $100,000 to train doctors

The Member of Parliament for Assin-Central, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, has presented a cheque for one hundred thousand dollars, to sponsor the training of seven health personnel in India.

This is to get health personnel ready to put to use the Cardiothoracic Centre, currently under construction at the 37 Military Hospital, in Accra,

The Centre, which is expected to be complete in 12 months, would have three operating theatres, an ICU, a high dependency Unit, a dedicated radiography, echocardiography services, VVIP clinic, among others.

The three-storey 80-bed capacity facility, with state-of-the-art equipment, is estimated at 1,200 million Ghana cedis.

Mr. Kennedy Agyapong said not much could be done to reduce the incidence of congenital heart defects, since lots of people continue to require prompt and reliable surgical interventions.

The seven health personnel are expected to come back and train others to get the Centre running effectively.

The Centre will be second to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle-bu Teaching hospital and will have the capacity to provide specialist diagnostics and treat cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.

The Ghana Armed Forces, thanked the MP for the gesture and called on Ghanaians to emulate the initiative to improve Ghana’s healthcare delivery.
