The Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua is facing serious shortage of blood at its Blood Bank.
This has come about as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic as blood donors’ fear of contracting the disease.
The development is causing delays in blood transfusion for patients at the facility’s Blood Bank.
To address this challenge , the Hospital is organizing a blood donation for staff at its premises today.
The Deputy Blood Donor Organiser at the Hospital, Grace Afamalor said the hospital supplies blood to twenty-six districts hospitals in the region, which increases demand.
She said most of their voluntary donors do not visit the facility since the on-set of the pandemic for fear they might be infected.
Miss Afamalor explained that blood donation does not pose any health risk. She therefore encouraged individuals to visit any health facility every three or four months to donate blood.
