Capacity building workshop to combat Neglected Tropical Diseases kick starts in Accra

A six-day capacity building workshop to help in the combat of neglected tropical diseases have commenced in Accra under the auspices of the Anesvad Foundation from Spain.

The capacity building training has put together various Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society Organizations whose specialties are in the fight against the neglected tropical diseases like leprosy, Buruli ulcer and sleeping sickness. Following the training, each of the organizations will receive fifty thousand Euros from the Anesvad Foundation from Spain to educate, train and also help with the NTDs elimination agenda in the country.

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of preventable and treatable diseases that affect the poorest, most vulnerable people who live in hard-to-reach parts of Africa including Ghana. These diseases disfigure and disable, keep children out of school and parents out of work.

To help support persons with these disease conditions, the Social Enterprise Ghana and Anesvad Foundation from Spain are implementing a Health assistant Project in some communities in Ghana. The programme will identify and support NGOs and CSO’s working in the area of Neglected Tropical Diseases health space in communities and districts in Ghana. 

They will be empowered to create sustainable avenues and programmes to address the challenges of persons suffering from Neglected Tropical Diseases. The Executive Director, Gender in focus Madam Alberta Kwofie was happy about the support. The country focal person of Anesvad Foundation Mr. Mahama Nantoqmah Ziblim also expressed commitment towards the NTD’s elimination agenda in Ghana.

The Executive Director of Social Enterprise Ghana Mr. Edwin Zue-Cudjoe entreated NGOs and CSO’s working in the NTD’s health space in the communities to undertake sustainable initiatives that will support sufferers of NTDs.
