Pregnant women are being encouraged to consider seeking Chiropractic care to enable them to avoid back pains and then carry their babies full term.

Chiropractic is a pseudoscientific alternative medicine that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine.

For women carrying babies, the spine  is very important, because doctors have pointed out that the bigger or heavier the babies, the more impact the pregnancy would have on the back side of the mother.

Dr. Bryan Cox, a Chiropractor with the Spinal Clinic Limited made the point during the GTV Breakfast Show, while speaking on Sciatica.

Sciatica is nerve pain from an injury or irritation to the sciatic nerve, which originates in the buttock/gluteal area. The sciatic nerve is the longest and thickest (almost finger-width) nerve in the body.

According to Dr. Cox, proper sitting and posturing can prevent Sciatica. He cautioned against the lifting of heavy things that could possibly cause damage to one’s back side.

”Lifting weights, just getting to the gym and exercising, we need to stretch properly during exercising”, he said.

To manage Sciatica, Dr. Cox recommends applying  an ice pack to reduce inflammation and applying some heat using a hot water bottle to help with blood circulation.
