Officials from the Agona West District branch of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the Central Region have reported a total of 11 confirmed cholera cases as of Thursday, January 23, 2025.

According to GHS officials, the directorate is handling 214 suspected cholera cases in the municipality, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.

The Municipal Health Director for Agona West, Madam Bertha Arthur, speaking in an interview with the media, urged residents in and around the municipality to remain vigilant while her team works to manage the outbreak.

She emphasized the need for the public to maintain high hygiene standards and report early symptoms to nearby health facilities for prompt action.

“As we speak, we have 214 suspected cases. Suspected means that some patients reported with dehydration, diarrhea, and vomiting. Out of all the samples we sent to the lab, 11 have been confirmed as cholera cases.

“In an outbreak situation, if a district suspects or confirms cases above a certain threshold, it indicates an emergency.

“It is time for all hands on deck to tackle the menace. We have intensified public education to sensitize people about the outbreak and are working with all stakeholders to address the situation. We urge the public to report to the hospital as soon as they notice symptoms of cholera,” the Municipal Health Director explained.
