A renowned Bioethics and global health expert at the University of Ghana School of Public Health, Prof. Paulina Tindana has emphasized the crucial role of vaccines in preventing diseases.
She specifically noted that vaccines are developed to prevent diseases rather than cure them.”
“The main focus of developing vaccines is to help prevent diseases, is not curative but prevention”, she said.
Prof. Tindana highlighted the rigorous process involved in vaccine development, mentioning that vaccines undergo multiple phases of clinical trials. She emphasized the importance of volunteers from the public who play a vital role in these trials by providing informed consent and participating in the research.
She addressed the challenge of public understanding regarding vaccine science. She expressed concern about the spread of misinformation surrounding vaccines, which contributes to public apathy towards vaccination efforts.
