The Ghana Health Service says it is in the process of distributing more than 4.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines in its continuous Immunization process. These include Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, as well as AstraZeneca doses. The Service is expected to take delivery of 8 million doses in two weeks.
In an interview with GBC NEWS, Manager of the Expanded Programme on Immunization at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano said Ghana now has enough vaccines for the population.
He told Nathaniel Nartey that the AstraZeneca vaccine is safe adding that countries that suspended it over issues of blood clotting have begun administering it again.
” There is no vaccine that is 100% safe and 100% efficacious, every vaccine has some adverse effect but the initial hullabaloo about Astra3, we have gone past it, that was several weeks ago and so countries are giving AstraZeneca now, we haven’t stopped giving AstraZeneca……for now I will say we have enough vaccines to cover the general population. We are expecting more in the next 2 weeks, about 7 or 8m more doses’’, according to Dr. Amponsah-Achiano
