The next phase of the vaccination against Covid-19 with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine received on August 7, 2021, is expected to commence on Friday, August 13.
This was disclosed by the Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe in an interview with GBC News.
Dr Asiedu-Bekoe said orientation is ongoing for staff of the Service who will be administering the jabs because it is a new brand of vaccine being introduced in Ghana.
He said, “Friday’s vaccination will focus on the two major hotspots in Ghana, which are Greater Accra and Ashanti.”
Dr Asiedu Bekoe advised organisations to adopt the shift system if possible to reduce the number of people at workplaces at a given time. This he said will ensure that protocols are followed, to ensure a reduction in the death rate.
Dr. Asiedu Bekoe’s comments come on the back of latest reports on the Ghana Health Service portal indicating that Coronavirus has claimed a total of 545 lives eight months into 2021.
This implies that the number of Covid -19 related deaths, which stood at 335 at the end of 2020, has almost doubled this year. The death toll currently stands at 880.
Meanwhile, Health Experts have raised concerns about the rising cases attributing it to the Delta variant and the general lack of adherence to the Covid-19 safety protocols in Ghana.
