The Hungary Helps Programme, with funding from the Hungarian Government has constructed and handed over an Out Patients Department, OPD, for the St Joseph the Worker Health Center at Guabuliga in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East region.

The OPD block which cost about GH₵200,000 will help to address the limited space at the facility which was impeding the delivery of quality health care.

The edifice is expected to serve more than 100,000 residents in its environs.

At a short Durbar to hand over the Unit, the Ambassador of Hungary to Ghana, Tamas Feher, was confident that the Health Center will serve its purpose to the joy and satisfaction of the residents.

The Outpatient Department at the St Joseph the Worker Health Center was built with donation from the Hungary Helps Programme in collaboration with the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese Development Organization. This is the second such Outpatient Departments to be opened in Ghana.

In July 2021, a similar facility was opened in Wulugu.

The total cost of the two Outpatient Departments are estimated at about $70, 000. They were built entirely by Ghanaian workers using domestic construction materials.

This means that the Hungarian donation did not only result in modern hospital buildings, but also boosted the domestic labor and construction material market in the area.

The limited space which was used as the OPD Unit had been one of the major headaches for staff and clients at the Health Centers over the years and many other Health Centers in the region.

The OPD is one of the many supports being received by Ghana through the benevolence of the Hungarian government.

The Ambassador of Hungary to Ghana, Tamar Feher, said the humanitarian assistance is an excellent example of how well the relations between Hungary and Ghana have developed.

The North East Regional Director of Health services, Dr. Abdulai Abukari expressed gratitude to the Hungary Helps Programme for its numerous supports to the region. He appealed to management and staff of the Health Center as well as residents of the area to endeavor to maintain the facility in order to serve its intended purpose.
