MTN Ghana has put a smile on the face of Mothers who gave birth on Christmas and Boxing Day with assorted baby products.
Handing over the items to mothers in some selected hospitals in Upper West, the Upper West Regional Manager of MTN, Kofi Owusu said the gesture was to share the joy with Mothers during the festive season.
He said the occasion should be seen as a season of giving and love for the less privileged in society.
The annual event of the Telecommunication Company saw babies gifted with baby oil, baby diapers, wipes, soaps, towels, wrappers, toys among others.
The distribution of baby hampers which was initiated in 2011 has so far seen the distribution of more than 2000 hampers to babies born on Christmas and Boxing Day.
A total of 500 baby hampers valued at 150 thousand Ghana cedis were earmarked for distribution in hospitals across the country.
In all, 40 hampers were presented to newborn babies in three hospitals in the Upper West Region. The hospitals included the Upper West Regional Hospital at Wa, Saint Joseph Hospital at Jirapa and Nadowli District Hospital.
The Upper West Regional Manager of MTN Ghana, Kofi Owusu congratulated the mothers and wished customers and stakeholders Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
“The Business thought it wise that we congratulate our mothers today, those who have given birth to also go home and be happy, with this we are doing across the 16 regions. So, for Upper West proper, our concentration was on the Regional Hospital, Saint Joseph Hospital Jirapa and Nadowli District Hospital but going forward we will extend it to other Districts like Lawra, Nandom and the rest of the districts. We want to wish our customers and stakeholders a happy Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year” he stated.
The Medical Director of the Upper West Regional Hospital, Dr Robert Amesiya commended MTN for their continued support to the Hospital and urged other corporate organisations to go to the aid of people who are in pain at various hospitals.
“We know that the essence of Christmas is giving, so if you are a corporate organisation operating within the Upper West Region or outside the region, this is the time we expect them to come to the aid of the people. Because people are sick and in need, if they come and offer help of this kind, they succeed in putting a smile on their faces. I urged other Corporate Organizations, individuals who are capable to also come to the aid of people who are in pain, and groaning in sickness in the hospitals across the country so that they can also smile and know that even in their misery” he urged.
Dr. Amesiya was however worried about the increased cases of kidney diseases in the Upper West Region.
He appealed to corporate bodies and philanthropists to support the Upper West Regional Hospital to put up a dialysis centre to take care of reported cases.
The Beneficiary Mothers were thankful to MTN Ghana for the gesture.
