The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, said the government is committed to ensuring sustainable financing for the National HIV response.

He said the government is actively exploring ways to integrate HIV clinical services into the National Health Insurance scheme. Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu made this known at the 2024 World AIDS Day event in Accra.

“On financing of the HIV response, the Government is working to ensure sustainable financing of the National HIV response.
We are exploring opportunities for integrating HIV clinical services into the national health insurance scheme.

“Additionally, we are working to support the efforts of civil society organizations in stepping up HIV prevention, care, and support services,” He noted.

The World AIDS Day has been observed annually to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and the challenges faced by those affected. It serves as a reminder to support individuals living with the virus and to honor those who have lost their lives to AIDS-related illnesses.

The day promotes education on prevention methods, such as safe sex practices and testing, while advocating the rights of those living with HIV and AIDS and addressing the stigma surrounding the disease. The global theme of this year’s World AIDS Day is “Take the right path” and the national theme is “Ending AIDS together: stepping up HIV prevention Efforts”.
