The Volta and Oti Regions Women Committee of the Health Service Workers Union (HSWU) presented dozens of pieces of cot sheet and gallons of liquid soap to the Neonatal Intensive Unit (NICU) of the Ho Teaching Hospital to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day. The gesture is to support staff at the Unit in their activities and to encourage other groups to donate to the hospital. The Chairperson of the Committee, Mabel Duvor said ”as staff at the various health facilities, we see challenges that mothers and health workers go through to acquire vital items to perform their duties hence the gesture”.

The Acting Nurse Manager at the Neonatal Intensive Unit of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Rita Azamelah thanked the Committee for the gesture and urged philanthropists and benevolent organization to support the unit with critical needs.  The Committee held a forum to discuss issues affecting the group and to chart the path to effectively perform their roles at their various health facilities.  It was themed “Women in Leadership and its Advantages”.

The Volta Regional Human Resource Manager the Ghana Health Service, Anna Awude encouraged women to aspire to occupy top positions in their field of work regardless of barriers. She also challenged them to be hard working when they assume those roles saying it will enable them to achieve organizational goals.

Members of the Committee were also taught handy works like brown sugar and tom brown manufacturing and beads making to empower them financially.
