The Ghana Medical Association says it has taken note of current developments regarding the Covid-19 variant. In a statement, GMA President, Dr. Frank Serebour it said the discovery of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in some countries in the world, and the current information available shows that the new variant is more infectious.
With the emergence of the Omicron variant and the impending festive season the GMA has called for improved efforts at preventing a fourth wave.
It encouraged all Ghanaians to avail themselves of the vaccination against Covid-19.
The statement also urged Ghanaians to continue to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols at all activities during the festive season.
GMA appealed to the government to also increase testing at the ports of entry as well as sequencing of all positive cases to enable prompt detection and containment of mutant strains such as the Omicron Variant.

Yellow Fever
The Ghana Medical Association, GMA, says it has put in adequate measures which includes appropriate case definition, case management and vaccination to contain the outbreak of yellow fever in the country. The outbreak which was first detected in the Savannah region has spread to eight regions and has claimed 40 lives.
This was contained in a statement signed by the GMA President, Dr. Frank Serebour.
It urged Ghanaians and residents of the country especially those in the affected areas to cooperate with the ongoing vaccination and report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility for appropriate diagnosis and management.
