Dr. Daniel Brefo, a Pedodontist Specialist at the Platinum Orthodontic and Advance Service says the overall health of the mouth has an effect on the whole body therefore there is the need to do oral checks periodically. He said apart from causing damage to your body it also has psychological and emotional effects. In other words when one has bad oral health it lowers your confidence level and makes you feel insecure.

“If the individual perceives that they have bad breath psychologically they have a problem. We have to educate people on the need to visit the dentist or the hospital to ensure good oral hygiene so that we can socialize when we go out there.”

“There are numerous consequences of bad oral hygiene, firstly is it affecting your confidence. You know when you have a bad breath and you go to places and people perceive that you have halitosis or bad breath or mouth odour you wouldn’t feel confident enough around these people”.
He advised that the simple and first thing to do to check if you have issues with your breath is to breathe air in your palm and smell it. He said when it smells bad then you know you have a problem.

Dr. Daniel Brefo says brushing should be done twice a day and carried out in circles, but not brushing all at once.

He made the point on the GTV Breakfast in an interview with Kafui Dey as the World marked World Health Day.
