Outbreak of Polio in Chereponi district of Northern region

The Ministry of  Health and the Ghana Health Service have announced the outbreak of Polio at Chereponi in the  Northern Region.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Director of Public Health at the Service, Dr. Badu Sarkodie said the National Polio Laboratory alerted both Institutions of  a confirmed case of Poliomyelitis through a sample of a two year old girl with Acute Flaccid Paralysis at Andonyama, a suburb of Chereponi.

Dr. Sarkodie said  the case is currently being managed at the Chereponi District Hospital.

He said in order to prevent the outbreak from escalating, a national team has  been deployed to assist the Regional  and  District teams to carry out  detailed investigations.

Dr. Sarkodie said there will be massive vaccination at Chereponi and its environs as soon as possible  to  prevent  the spread of the disease.
