Parliament has approved more than twenty-four-million-euro tax waiver on materials, equipment and services to be procured for the construction of a new 330-Bed Maternity Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

This follows a request by Government for a tax waiver covering Import Duties, Import and Domestic Value Added Tax, VAT, Ghana Education Trust Fund, (GETFund) Levy, National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL), EXIM and Special Import Levy.

The request had been laid before the House in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and at the request of Government acting through the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta under the laws and regulations relating to the waiver of Duties and Taxes.

Chairman of the Finance Committee, Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah, presenting the Committee’s report observed that by the provisions of Article 174 (2) of the Constitution, Parliament is empowered to confer power on any person or authority to waive or vary a tax imposed by an Act.
