Sugar is sweet and loved by many, but, Doctors say, it is a silent killer. An alternative may be refined sugar, which is the extracted sugar from natural foods. Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, a Dietician Ernestina Eduful, spoke of the dangers of excessive intake of sugar. Madam Eduful said excessive intake of sugar can lead to the contraction of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The Dietician added that even though honey is good for the body, there is the need to stick to the recommended portion just like refined sugar which is nine teaspoons a day for an adult.
She advised parents to reduce the amount of sugars given to their children and recommended ”fruits instead of soft drinks”, since it is a good substitute for refined sugar.
She added that a balanced diet and fruit intake is very essential for a healthy body.
”Sugar adds nothing but taste to food”, according to Dietitian Ernestina Eduful.
