The Deputy Volta Regional Director in charge of Public Health, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto has reiterated the need for every individual, particularly, those in the Volta Region to get vaccinated against Covid-19. He said the negative impact of Covid-19 makes it necessary to sustain the vaccination until the country reaches an appreciable level of head immunity to avert any future recurrence.
Dr. Djokoto said this when the Volta Regional Health Directorate launched the National Covid-19 days/media and stakeholders sensitization meeting at Ho in the Vota Region, from where, Seraphine Nyuiemedi reports that the National Covid-19 vaccination days slated for April 21 to 25, 2022 seeks to vaccinate 13 % of 81,035 persons requiring at least a dose.
The vaccine will be administered to all persons 16 years and above including pregnant women. The Deputy Volta Regional Health Director in charge of Public Health, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto said the declining rate in cases does not make Covid-19 vaccination ”any less important and urged people in the Volta region to take advantage of the exercise to get vaccinated”.
Dr. Djokoto said the Volta Region has recorded 6,020 cases of Covid-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020 with 90 deaths. He indicated that although his unit targeted a population of one million, 407 thousand 868 representing 72.01 % out of the projected population of one million 955 thousand 371, only a total of 464 thousand 464 Covid-19 doses have been administered. He said 173 thousand 705 people representing 12.3 % of the population in the region have been fully vaccinated as of April 19, 2022, with 296 thousand 508 persons representing 21.1 % receiving at least one dose. Dr. Djokoto bemoaned the low level of vaccination in the Volta Region and urged participants to sensitize the public in that regard.
The World Health Organization’s Representative, Kafui Senya said, though President Akufo Addo has eased the Covid-19 restrictions, the risk of new strains of the pandemic and its resurgence cannot be undermined hence need for all to get vaccinated.
However, the Volta Region currently has no active case of Covid-19.
