As part of the activities to earmark World Hearing Day Celebration, a team of E.N.T. Specialists visited the GBC Newsroom to begin the initiative by educating and providing free ear screening for interested persons.

PRO of the Greater Accra E.N.T Nurses Group, Mrs Caroline Aidoo, gave a talk on the benefits of having wax in the ears as it serves as a lubricant that moistens all three layers of the ear and also aids in reducing the level of noise that enters the ears.

”Wax lubricates the ear, the ear is supposed to be lubricated and the wax traps dust”, she posited.

Mrs. Aidoo advised that the continuous act of inserting the likes of pen corks, matchsticks, cotton buds amongst others into the ears to remove the wax should be brought to a minimum, as it can cause ones hearing resonance to be impaired should it poke the deepest layer of the ear, which is the ”ear drums”.

The E.N.T Specialist went on further to say that the wax in the ear is very essential because it prevents infections from getting into the ears as well as other vital organs connected to them.

To be on the safer side, she entreated everyone to at least ”frequent the ear clinic once in a year to safeguard the ear from any infection and hearing loss issues”.
