Medical Expert, Dr. Ama Fosua Amponsem has underscored the critical role of hand hygiene in schools as a vital measure to combat the spread of Conjunctivitis, commonly known as “Apollo.”

In an interview on the GTV Breakfast Show, she emphasized that due to the close proximity in which children often interact, they are more susceptible to contracting and subsequently spreading Conjunctivitis. To mitigate this risk, she strongly recommended the implementation of rigorous hygiene practices within school environments.

“Regular handwashing and sanitizing are paramount in preventing the transmission of Conjunctivitis, especially in schools where children’s interactions are frequent and intimate,” she stated.

According to her, educational institutions should place a heightened emphasis on hygiene protocols. Through consistent handwashing and sanitization measures, schools can create a safer environment for both learning and play.

“By prioritizing hand hygiene, we can significantly reduce the risk of infection and protect the eye health of our young learners,” She advised.

Additionally, Dr. Amponsem highlighted the importance of early intervention and professional medical treatment for Conjunctivitis cases and seeking prompt medical attention ensures a more effective and timely recovery.

The insights serve as a valuable resource for schools, parents, and communities in the collective effort to safeguard the eye health of young learners.
