NDC Presidential candidate John Mahama has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment, and that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election in Ghana.

Speaking during a meeting with a pre-election assessment team from the West African Elders Forum, led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, at his Cantonment Office in Accra, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of a credible voters’ register as the foundation for a successful election.

He stressed that without an accurate and reliable register, the integrity of the electoral process could be compromised.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by regional and international bodies to monitor Ghana’s election preparations and to support a peaceful and credible electoral process.

The West African Elders Forum, comprising experienced statesmen, has been instrumental in promoting democracy and peaceful transitions across the region.

During the meeting, Mr. Mahama reiterated his commitment, and that of the NDC, to ensuring that the upcoming elections are free, fair, and transparent. He emphasized that a successful and peaceful election hinges on a credible voters’ register.

For this reason, Mr. Mahama explained that the NDC has been pressing the Electoral Commission to address the anomalies identified in the current voters’ register before Ghanaians head to the polls. He expressed concern that without rectifying these issues, the integrity of the election process could be compromised.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, in response, commended Mr. Mahama for his unwavering commitment to democracy and his efforts to maintain peace in the country.

Mr. Goodluck highlighted the importance of political leaders fostering trust in the electoral system, noting that credible elections are essential for maintaining stability in West Africa.

Mr. Mahama, who has been a consistent advocate for electoral reforms, stressed that the NDC remains committed to working within democratic frameworks to ensure that every vote counts and that the will of the people is respected.

He assured the team that the party is ready to participate in a peaceful election but called for vigilance in safeguarding the electoral process.
