Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted claims that the Kasoa-Winneba Road project is being funded and executed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He indicated that the project is rather a fully financed Government of Ghana project at a cost of $195 million.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of the Awutu Traditional Area at this year’s Awubia festival, Dr Bawumia set the record straight regarding the ongoing road project, stressing that claims by the MP for Area that the project is funded by ECOWAS is false as he the Vice President chaired a Committee set up by the President to oversee the project to ease congestion on that stretch.
He urged the people of the area to disregard such misinformation about the project, reiterating government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure in the country.
“President Akufo-Addo put me in charge of the Critical Roads Committee, where we agreed that the government would prioritize the construction of some key critical roads in the country, such as the Adenta to Dodowa Road and the Kasoa-Bawjiase Road”.
“The Kasoa-Winneba Road Project is a Government Project and not any ECOWAS Project; let no one lie about that”, he stated emphatically, to the applause of the festival audience.
Dr. Bawumia highlighting the importance of the Kasoa-Winneba Road project stated that the project is part of road networks identified by the Critical Roads Committee which placed priority on some roads across the country as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure in key areas. He said the project is being fully funded by the government and not the ECOWAS.
“In a Awutu-Senya, we have made significant strides, improving infrastructure and creating jobs. Of the six major roads in this constituency, our government is in the process of construction five projects . We have completed the Bawjiase-Swedru road and the Akoti junction-Senya Breku road. The Bawjiase- Kasoa road which is currently under construction will be completed this year”.
The NPP Parliamentary aspirant for the Awutu Senya West who is also the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin outlining some projects undertaken by the government in the area, appealed to the electorate to vote for him and the NPP Presidential Candidate in the upcoming general elections.
“I am just a candidate at the moment, however, I have brought a lot of development to this area. There has being eight elections in this constituency, NPP has only won twice, yet the development done here supercedes what our opponents have done. I have built schools and markets for this constituency. The Bawjiase Astro-turf will be commissioned in October this year”.
The Awutu Obrakyerehen and Acting President of the Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Ntow Abosompem who spoke on behalf of the Omanhene, expressed gratitude to the government for the development brought to the area although more needs to be done.
“Awutu Traditional Area will be glad to have a training institution and an industo boost out development. We also need your help to complete our traditional council hall. As we go to the polls this year, let us remember that there is no governance during war. The people of Ghana deserves nothing more than peace amd unity. We owe our nation and the children of Ghana peace before, during and after the elections”.
The Awutu Awubia festival is celebrated annually by the Chiefs and people of Awutu Traditional Area in Awutu Beraku and the Central Region. The festival is focused on promoting healthy agricultural competition among the people while uniting them as it signifies the end of the farming season and the harvest period of the agriculture produce.
Vice President Bawumia used the occasion to present the equipment for the Awutu-Senya West under the District Road Improvement Programme, DRIP.
