Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that the late President John Fiifi Atta Mills deserves more credit for his efforts in combating corruption and retrieving state lands from individuals.

In an interview on “The Talking Points” at Channel 1 TV on August 26, 2024, he noted that Prof. Mills quietly achieved significant successes without necessarily prosecuting individuals.

Ablakwa highlighted the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) commitment to holding the New Patriotic Party accountable for corruption during their administration.

He cited the example of land grabbing, where Prof. Mills successfully retrieved many state lands.

Ablakwa acknowledged that the Mills era was criticized for not prosecuting individuals, but emphasized that he made efforts to retrieve state assets that had fallen into the wrong hands.

Ablakwa expressed concern about the unprecedented level of corruption, looting, and state capture in the current administration.

He assured that the NDC has learned from past experiences and is committed to exacting accountability and ensuring that individuals face prosecution for their crimes.

Regarding the Ghana at 50 fiasco, Mr. Ablakwa stated that the approach used was flawed and that direct prosecution would have been more effective.

He emphasized the importance of building strong cases and proceeding straight to prosecution, rather than relying on commissions of inquiry.
