Maternity and Health Block at Keta Hospital marks Mothers’ Day

By: Elorm Yao Aryee

The maternity and child health facility at the Keta Municipal Hospital in the Volta Region was full of joy as mothers who had welcomed their new born babies on Mothers’ Day joined to mark the celebration.

The joy that comes with safe delivery means so much to mothers after several months of endurance during pregnancy.

It is even awesome when it falls around mother’s day, a day set aside to celebrate motherhood.

At the Keta Municipal Hospital, about 30 nursing mothers were on admission when GBC News visited the new facility built by MTN Foundation as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Rita Dogbey who is one the mothers on admission had just welcomed her first born.  As a young mother, Rita says she will do everything necessary to provide all the needs of the baby, especially given her the best of education.

Delali Segbefia had just delivered a new born, the third of three children. Delali says she is very happy to have welcomed the new addition to the family and will do anything necessary to protect the child.

Situations however turn sour when a mother loses her child during delivery.

But for the Midwife in charge of the facility,  Grace Golo, she has seen it all.

The joy that comes with mothers welcoming their offspring and the pain associated with pregnant women losing their babies during delivery.

As a midwife, Ms Golo says she is fulfilled with the smiles on the faces of mothers when deliveries are successful.

The painful periods are when pregnant women lose their lives or their babies through complications. Ms Golo however stated that healthcare delivery has had significant boost since they moved to the new maternal and neonatal block financed by the MTN Foundation. She lauded all mothers for their efforts as the world marks Mother’s Day today May 12, 2024
