McDan foundation rescues 11-year old ‘wee’ smoker at East Legon

The McDan foundation has rescued an 11 year old boy who has been smoking Indian hemp  (Wee) in a hideout around the Emmanuel eye clinic during a philanthropic gesture which was hailed by many people in around the vicinity.

The Chief Executive Officer of McDan Group of Companies, Dr Daniel Mckorley together with the McDan foundation on Tuesday, December 24, took to the principal streets of Accra to give alms to the less privileged in society.

During the alms giving, the McDan foundation The McDan street alms sharing program started from Okponglo traffic light then proceeded to Dzowulu (Fiesta Royal) then moved to Under Bridge at East Legon and ended up at the Emmanuel Eye clinic traffic light which is noted be the hideout of ‘wee’ smokers.

Dr McKorley took some time at the Dzorwulu fiesta Royal Traffic light to speak to the street hawkers and kayayei about his intention to get them some form of artisanal training to become self-reliant and get off the street.

The journey continued to the East Legon Police Station where the foundation leaders and Dr McKorley shared some food items and lots of goodies for the police officers on duty and those in the cells put smile on the faces.

He also advocated for corporate bodies to come to the aid of street children and homeless people by funding their education and providing them with jobs.

The final point of the alms giving roadshow ended at the Emmanuel Eye clinic traffic light a destination close to the Head Office of the McDan group.

During the final sharing of items, an 11 year old boy was identified by the foundation heads with support from the food vendors in the area as an excessive ‘wee’ smoker.

He was asked some few questions and was rescued by the kind gesture of the Dr Daniel Mckorley and the McDan foundation. He will be taken off the street and put through school for a better future for himself and mother Ghana.

Three days later, the McDan Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing of the McDan Group of companies again went to La Township to feed close to 3,200 aged women particularly widows and provided them with food items as part of activities to mark the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

This is the sixth year the McDan group has been feeding and providing for the widows in La.

In an interview with the press men, Mr Daniel McKorley called on corporate Ghana to give back to the less privileged in society.
