The Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has donated GH¢200,000 to support traders affected by the devastating fire at the Kantamanto Market in Accra on January 2, 2025.

During a visit to the market, Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed empathy for the traders who lost goods and property in the fire.

“We appeal to the government to come to your aid. Recently, we approved the budget, and we are aware that the contingency fund is available to assist in times of crisis,” Afenyo-Markin said.

The Minority Leader also called on companies that had provided loans to the traders to consider reducing interest rates, providing some financial relief.

He described the donation as a “modest contribution” from the Caucus, saying, “This is GH¢200,000, it is a modest contribution from us, the mighty minority, to support you.”

The donation, aimed to provide some relief to the affected traders as they worked to rebuild their businesses.
