The National Peace Council has expressed the hope that the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections this year would be transparent and successful considering the quality assurance system in place by the Electoral Commission.

The Council is however urging the political parties to cooperate with the EC to clean the Voters Register to ensure credible polls.

The Chairman of the Peace Council, Reverend Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi, made the observation at Ejura during an interview with GBC News on the sidelines of the 61st Session of the Ghana Baptist Convention.

The Annual Session of the Ghana Baptist Convention is the highest decision making organ of the Ghana Baptist Convention.

The Session is held every year at the Church’s Retreat Centre at Ejura in the Ashanti region with delegates from almost all the Congregations, groups and Ministers from across the country as delegates.

This year’s event, which is the 61st edition, which spans three days, is being used by the over one thousand delegates to take stock of the operational plans adopted at last year’s Session and adopt for implementation new strategic plans for the ensuing year towards expanding the mission of the Baptist Church in Ghana and abroad with emphasis on souls winning through social interventions and church planting.

The Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, Reverend Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, disclosed that, the Convention established 55 new congregations of the Baptist Church in Ghana far more than the planned 35, an indication that, more souls were won for Jesus Christ.

As the country prepares for the December 7 elections, the Ghana Baptist Convention, according to Executive President, is conscientizing its members to actively participate but be agents of peace.

The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose, noted that, the Council considers this year’s Presidential electioneering as Ghana’s most contentious considering the fact that, it is the first time a former President is contesting an incumbent Vice President making the poll historic and presenting a need for proactive measures to ensure the contest does not lead Ghana into anomy.

The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Reverend Dr. Adu Gyamfi, noted that, after closely monitoring the electoral processes and engagement of the Electoral Commission with its stakeholders so far, the Peace Council is assured of a transparent and successful elections in December and advised political parties to trust the system instead of always running to the media at the least suspicion.

The National Peace Council Chairman expressed surprise that the NDC which had been at a for a where the Inspector General of Police had given an update about what the state is doing to deal with the killings during the 2020 elections has turned around to use the same issue against the peace process.

Reverend Dr. Adu Gyamfi said also that, President Akufo-Addo has on different occasions assured the country of his resolve to accept the will of Ghanaians after the December 7 polls and hand over a peaceful country thereby fulfilling one of the conditions given by the NDC in the party’s reasons to avoid signing any peace Agreement ahead of the December 7 elections.
