NDC’s ‘Enough Is Enough’ demo against EC kicks off in Eastern Region

By Michael Kenetey

Supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Eastern Region have joined the nationwide demonstration to compel the Electoral Commission to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

The NDC raised concerns with the provisional voter register when the EC shared it with political parties and urged its members to protest nationwide against the alleged discrepancies the leadership of the party said they had uncovered.

The supporters were clad in black and red, and others in party shirts are holding placards with inscription, “All we demand is transparency and accountability”, “Clergy, silence is complicity,” “speak truth to power”, “borla EC”, among others.

Some supporters are also chanting, “we need change”, “We will take back our country” etc.

There is a heavy security presence, with the Eastern Regional Police Command deploying 500 police officers to ensure peace and order before, during, and after the demonstration.

They processed through the principal streets of Koforidua, starting from the Koforidua Prisons Park, Estate Junction, Agartha Market, Y and K Traffic, and then proceeded to the Eastern Regional Electoral Commission Office, where the leadership of the party led the National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, and Eastern Regional Chairman, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor of the NDC, presented their petition to the Regional Electoral Commission Officer, John Appiah Baffoe.

In an interview with GBC Sunrise FM, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for New Juaben South, Dr. Martin Otu Offei, noted that it is pertinent for the democracy of the country for the EC to clean the voters register to ensure fair, transparent, and peaceful elections.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for New Juaben North, Samuel Adongo, mentioned that until the EC pays heed to their demands, they will never give the EC peace.
