The running mate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has assured Ghanaians of the party’s commitment to ensuring that the Free Senior High School policy introduced by the NPP government will see a better enhancement when they are elected into office in 2025.
Her comments follows a long time allegation by the NPP that, the NDC has been against the social policy and by that may annul it when they are voted into power. Addressing a rally in Sekondi during her three-day campaign tour of the Western Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the NDC has no intention of canceling Free SHS, but rather aims to address the challenges faced by students, teachers, and schools.
As a former Minister of Education in the previous, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted her party’s significant investments in the education sector, highlighting the key amongst them with reference to building Community Day Schools and introducing Progressively Free SHS.
She urged Ghanaians to disregard anti-NDC propaganda suggesting an imminent cancellation of the program. According to her, the next NDC government, according to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, will improve Free SHS implementation by:Investing in classroom and boarding infrastructure to eliminate the double-track system, Providing teaching and learning materials for schools and Ensuring adequate food supply for students
She questioned whether the current government is suggesting that the challenges in the education calendar, including the double-track system, should be ignored, and whether students should be denied better food and state-of-the-art teaching materials. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the NDC has a comprehensive plan to enhance Free SHS implementation and raise the quality of secondary education.
She further encouraged electorates to vote for John Dramani Mahama to fulfill his promise of improving education at all levels and providing jobs for the youth through the 24-Hour Economy policy.
